Today was a two treat special for Kev as Chris, his man-date for the day, kindly repaid his own 40th birthday treat.

Treat 1

We arrived at Prestwold Hall in Leicester to drive some pretty fast scarlet coloured cars.

The track

As with all these things the compulsory safety briefing took place, followed by us being driven round the track by an instructor before we were allowed anywhere near anything with a prancing horse on the back.

The previously mentioned prancing horses were on one of two very nice Ferrari 360s.  Chris was up first to have a play.

3 laps later Chris had safely returned and climbed out of the black 360 with a huge smile on his face.

Now it was Kev's turn to squeeze himself into the surprisingly small Ferrari interior.

Three more laps later and Kev had the same big smile on his face.

Jokes about the small size of the peddles and derogatory remarks about the size of Ferrari owners feet swiftly followed.

Treat 2

Having threatened to visit this place for many, many years we finally did.

The Grand Prix Collection at Donnington is the worlds largest collection of Grand Prix racing cars.  The entrance to which is suitable marked out by statues of two the of sports greatest drivers, Ayrton Senna and Jaun Manuel Fangio.

Before we got to the race cars there was an impressive collection of vehicles that were probably last seen working as they headed to Poland back in the late 30s.

Some of the cars were racing back before either Kev or Chris were born, being raced in the 50s and 60s.

Others were even older than that.

There were two huge rooms just dedicated to to the Williams and McLaren teams.

Both of which contained two of the best F1 cars ever made.  Senna's McLaren and Nigel Mansells Williams, better known as "Red 5"

Other great cars included ones either driven by Jackie Stewart in the 70s or run by Stewart when he was a team owner.

The collection is pretty impressive, well worth a look if you are an F1 fan.  Though Kev does recommend a morning of driving fast cars, just to get you in the mood.
