July 1st 2009, Ilkeston's Got Talent Semi Final, Ilkeston
In an unashamed and blatant rip off of Britain Got Talent, we were about to find out if Ilkeston did indeed have talent.
The format was the familiar performers perform whilst judges judge. However, in a twist from the Simon Cowell version, the judges lit up one of three large stars above the stage to show they liked what they were seeing.
It seems that Ilkeston couldn’t have that much talent lying around as the competition took the unusual step of starting at the semi final rounds.
Sadly Ant and Dec weren’t hosting the show (they had prior commitments) so that was left to the “capable” hands of both members of everyone’s favourite community radio station Erewash Sound (Broadcasting 5pm to Midnight every Friday)
The judges were made up of a woman no-one had heard of who wouldn’t stop talking about her singing career, the other presenter from Erewash Sound and a lady from Co-Op travel who provided the Prize
The acts were mostly singers or dance groups, with the odd musician thrown in for good measure. Leah was competing as part of the Pop Divas entry.
Some entries were very good, such as the Davy Crocket hat balancer and the girl that sang that song from Titanic.
Others were odd, like the man that danced around to one song whilst mumbling another or the jugglers that kept dropping things.
Perhaps not surprisingly all the acts got three stars from the judges who passed on their words of wisdom and support at the end of each act.
Eventually, after much talking from the women judge telling us yet another story about her singing career, the Pop Divas came out.
Dancing to Flo-Ridas Right Round they were amazing, danced really well, looked fantastic and got one of the larges cheers of the night.
With all the acts complete, it was time for the judges to decide who would go through to the Final.
So, in no particular order, those acts going through to the final are (insert drum roll here)
The girl that sang the song from Titanic,
Another girl that sang something,
The Davey Crocket hat balancer,
The Pop Divas.
