May 13th 2009, The Orient Express, Nottingham
Last year was Kev's Mum and Dads 40th Wedding Anniversary. So to celebrate this milestone we sent them on the Orient Express.
There are a number a trips you can do, Mum and Dad settled on a day trip from Nottingham, though the train itself started off at Peterborough, to Oxenholme in the Lake District. A smart dress code was in force, which some people took very seriously.
Though it wasn't the steam pulled version, that only goes from London, all the carriages were the genuine Northern Belle variety.
All Northern belle carriages are named after great British stately homes and castles and each has its own style.
Mum and Dad were in Glamis, named after the 13th Century residence of the Bowes Lyon family. Glamis also happened to be a childhood home of the Queen and the Queen mum.
Glamis is decorated in America elm inset with sycamore, madronna burr, yew, peartree and box wood. None of which is amply demonstrated in the photos below.
