It seems that our guess why the freezer consumption went up from 3.03kwh to 3.36kwh after we made all the changes was correct.
Having taken up a lot of the empty space with plastic milk bottles filled with water the freezer is now pretty much full, but having to freeze a lot of water in the first place is what increased its electricity consumption for a brief period.

The good news is that, having made the changes, the consumption of the freezer has gone down by 21% from 3.03kwh per week to 2.40kwh.
Combined with the 96% saving we got by putting those items on charge onto a timer, the total electricity consumption in the garage has dropped from 5.3kwh per week to 2.49kwh per week. That’s a total drop of 53% which in turn reduces our carbon footprint by very nearly 60kg of CO2 per year.
