Our new kitchen
Since we moved in we had decorated the kitchen a few times. Over time we also added extra wall cupboards and changed the flooring but it was never really finished.
The most obvious part was where the worktop, that once stopped to leave space for a fridge freezer, still stopped but now showed the top of the fridge instead.
The Worst Bit
Just like when the bathroom was done there is also a "worst bit". This time we removed the tiles and just for good measure quite a bit of the wall as well. Even a novice DIYer could see the wall would need re-plastering before any tiles could go up.

We used a local a company called Oatenvale to provide and fit not only the new granite worktop we wanted but also the sink, tap, oven, hob and extractor fan.

Oatenvale did a few other jobs for us as well including installing worktop lighting and fitting a cupboard, that used to be where the dishwasher was, to replace the decorative end shelves that we had.

The granite worktop is amazing, despite is dark colour it reflects a lot of light thanks to its polished finish.
The kitchen now looks bigger than it did. The worktop runs all the way over the fridge and the new sink is hung underneath the worktop with draining provided by the grooves cut into the granite. This all gives the illusion of more worktop and therefore more space
The new Neff oven is a lot quieter than our old one, and its much more efficient as its an A rated appliance.

Having had the walls replaced, we got a local tiler in to retile them. The tiles are nice and simple so we went for a slim silver tile running all the way round the walls for a bit of extra effect.

The final part was the floor which we first saw at our friends, Sally and Deans, house.
Called Karndean it looks just like wood or tiles or in our case slate but it isn't. In fact its more like rubber tiles that can be made into pretty much any style you want. Like Sally and Dean we used a company called Flooring Trends.

So, having picked the style we wanted and the colour of the "grout" they screeded the floor to make sure it was flat and a few days later fitted the "slate".
Unlike real slate our floor is warm to the touch and wont break it something is dropped on to it. Its also textured making it very difficult to tell its not real.
